My Body Is A Weapon (Waiting At Your Door) is a meditation on desire and Stachura’s experience of transness, documented throughout the nascent stages of his medical transition. Comprised of still life photography and a portraits made during a defining period of finding chosen family, this series is an attempt to make sense of a body in flux amid the marking of trans bodies as dangerous and the constant hum of existential dread. These photographs attempt to reimagine desire outside of cisnormativity: both a desire to be wanted—to be truly seen—, and a desire to self-actualize on “our own” terms.
